Hathershaw College

The 3 Rs

The 3 Rs

At The Hathershaw College, we promote the values of being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn (the 3 Rs). We strive to help students develop the essential habits and routines necessary for success. By fostering these positive habits, we actively encourage consistent and constructive behaviour. The 3 Rs are grounded in key research, which highlights that effective behaviour management is best achieved when it is straightforward and clear. Teachers are encouraged to address any behaviour that falls short of the college’s expectations by referencing the relevant 3 R. This consistent reinforcement of positive habits aims to empower students to regulate their own behaviour and thrive academically.

Examples of expected behaviours include:

Responsible Respectful Ready to Learn
  • Arrive on time to the lesson

  • Avoid distractions or distracting others from learning

  • Looking after and having pride in your College and its equipment

  • Accept sanctions when issued

  • Refrain from behaving in a way that brings the school into disrepute, including when outside school or online
  • Do not talk when the teacher is speaking

  • Follow teacher's instructions first time

  • Accepting the decisions made by adults

  • Move quietly around school
  • Wear the correct uniform at all times

  • Have your equipment ready e.g. pen, ruler, and PE kit

  • Listening carefully and focus on learning
