Voices of hope: Nasheed Artist Inspires Students

On Thursday 11th September, we were delighted to welcome renowned Nasheed Artist, Hussnain Hanif, who joined us to share his musical journey with students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The visit was an inspiring opportunity for pupils to experience Nasheed music, a traditional form of vocal performance that combines rhythm and melody to convey powerful spiritual and uplifting messages.

During the sessions, students not only learned about the history and meaning behind Nasheeds but also had the chance to take part in singing a piece together. The song, which focused on hope for a world in need, carried a message that resonated strongly with many of our young people, encouraging them to reflect on music’s ability to bring people together and to inspire change.

Hussnain also spoke warmly about his personal experiences growing up in Burnley, where music became both a passion and a way to express his identity. He shared stories of his own journey into performing and the creation of his Nasheed choir, who will be performing for the Royal Family later this year — a reminder to students that music can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.

The visit coincided with an important milestone for our Year 7 students, who were presented with their very own musical instruments. This moment symbolised the beginning of their own musical journeys, with the potential to be truly life-changing if they embrace the opportunities ahead.

Reflecting on the event, Miss Dawson, Lead teacher of music said:

"It's really important that we celebrate music from around the world, not just from our own culture. Students really enjoyed learning about something different and it was lovely to hear them also singing a hopeful song."
