E-Safety

E-Safety is about using information and communication technologies in a safe and responsible way. But how can we safeguard children in a digital world? A key technology is the internet, which has become part of our daily lives. Information is readily available at your fingertips and It's a place where children can discover, learn, communicate and have fun. All in all the internet has had a positive impact, however the downside is that the internet is not regulated, no one owns it. Anyone can upload and download content including those with criminal, racist, extremist or warped sexual views such as a paedophile. Paedophiles can take advantage of the anonymous nature of the internet to contact, exploit and harm children.

The internet can now be accessed through various technologies such as phones, laptops, portable music players, games consoles and digital television. Never before have children had so many ways of and so many opportunities to access the internet.

Children can also unintentionally engage in inappropriate or possibly illegal activities on the internet such as cyberbullying and illegal music downloads or put themselves at risk by giving out their personal information. It is vital therefore, that we educate and equip children with the knowledge to safely go online.
